Our high performance, heavy-duty 'WISKAWAY'® Wall Beds have an
unbeatable service record, meet all current Health & Safety, Manual Handling and
Infection Control requirements and eliminate the need for ward staff to
trundle makeshift beds to and fro and make them up/unmake them each
evening/morning. This leads to substantial cost savings over time, including
reduced laundry bills, as well as various Health & Safety and Manual
Handling benefits.
Because ‘WISKAWAY’® Wall Beds are counterbalanced, they need to be fixed to
the wall.
Following the success of the incorporation of our
'WISKAWAY'® Wall Beds into the new Bristol Royal Hospital for Children
in 2001, the 'WISKAWAY'® 7500H was an obvious choice for architects BDP,
to provide overnight facilities for parents right next to their
children, in the bays and cubicles of the new Royal Alexandra Children's
Hospital (RACH) in Brighton, which opened its doors in 2007.
Just under sixty Vertical 'WISKAWAY'® 7500H Wall Beds were specified for
Levels 7, 8 and 9 of this PFI project. The architects selected special
wipe-clean Plastic Laminate finishes for the housings of these beds in
plain pastel shades, to blend in with the decor of the rooms and chose a
different finish on the insides of the housings, from that on the
outsides. Our new high-specification ‘FLEXICA’® foam mattresses with
removable (zip-on/off), breathable, wipe-clean/waterproof covers (and flame
retardant
to Ignition Source 5) were ordered to go with the ‘WISKAWAY’® Wall Beds.
Other new dedicated Children’s Hospitals, for which our ‘WISKAWAY’® Wall
Beds have been specified, include the new Royal Aberdeen Children's
Hospital, the new Queen Elizabeth Children’s Hospital in Glasgow, the
new Children’s Hospital at the RVI in Newcastle, the new Royal
Manchester Children’s Hospital, the new extended Children's Hospital for
Wales in Cardiff and the new Children’s Hospital at the QAH in
Portsmouth.
A current requirement in Children's Hospitals is to
provide overnight accommodation for at least one parent, as near as possible
to the child's bed.
Various types of space-saving bed have been employed over the years for this
purpose, but the ultimate solution to the problem of where to put parents,
is a ‘WISKAWAY’® Wall Bed.
